Busy bear season so far in greater Victoria
A Victoria based BC Conservation officer say so far this year has been a busy one for bears in greater Victoria.
BC conservation officer Scott Norris says they've received more than 330 bear related calls in the past three months in Greater Victoria, almost as many as all of 2016. "There' still a number bears in the Sooke area that we're looking for because they're showing aggressive behaviour there getting rewarded with garbage."
Norris says most of the calls are connected to human behaviour.
Two black bears were shot Friday, one in Sooke and one in Central Saanich. Norris says so far 11 bears have been shot in greater Victoria this year. "People just have to recognize that if they don't do something there will be a bear in their neighborhood and we might have to shoot it."
Norris says people have a duty to lock up their garbage and other food attractants.
