Calling All Artists offers locals a chance to showcase their art
Artists in the CRD have three opportunities to have their artwork featured in public spaces this summer.
Calling All Artists is running three programs for established and up and coming artists in the CRD to showcase their art.
The Calling All Artists "Summer Banner Program" is asking for artists and graphic designers to create original banner designs to be hung on downtown lamp-posts. Designs will be printed onto nylon banners, and should include colours and designs that take advantage of light passing through the fabric. The selected artists will receiver 1,500 dollars in compensation. The deadline for submissions to the "Summer Banner Program" is Wednesday, March 27 at 4 p.m.
The Calling All Artists "Commute- A Bus Shelter Exhibition" will see 18 artworks work featured in six bus shelters in Victoria. Artists can submit up to five original existing or newly created artworks. The selected artists will be paid a fee of $500 per image that is displayed. Deadline to submit artwork for "Commute - Bus Shelter Exhibit" is Tuesday, April 9, at 4 p.m.
The Calling All Artists "Commercial Alley Outdoor Art Gallery" project is an outdoor installation for artists and artist teams. Artists are asked to create a series of four 1.2 by 2.4 metre panels that enhance the vitality of the Commercial Alley area. The selected team or artists will be paid $2,250 in compensation, the deadline for submission is Tuesday, April 9, at 4 p.m.
Three informal drop-in information sessions are also being offered to provide artists and artist teams an opportunity to learn more and ask questions about the public art opportunities. These sessions are being held at the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria on Friday, March 22, Victoria City Hall on Tuesday March 26, and the Songhees Wellness Centre on Friday, March 29.
