Chilly temperatures create blanket shortage

With the temperature dipping below freezing this week across Greater Victoria, Our Place Society is in desperate need of warm blankets to help keep the homeless warm.

Linda McLean, Director of Program Development, says the recent cold snap has depleted supplies of warm blankets, sleeping bags -- and items like socks, gloves and scarves.

Mclean says the need is immediate.

Meantime, Our Place is hosting their 6th annual Big Latke Lunch at noon Thursday -- featuring potato latkes, and other popular Jewish fare in honor of Hanukkah.

Members of Congregation Emanu-El are preparing the feast for as many as 450 of Greater Victoria’s most vulnerable citizens.
