Colwood and Songhees First Nation to sign Royal Roads agreement
An agreement regarding the future management of the Royal Roads Lands is close to being done.
The mayor of Colwood and chief of the Songhees First Nation will sign the agreement Monday afternoon.
The property is part of the traditional territory of the Lekwungen and lies within Colwood’s municipal boundary, but is owned by the Canadian Department of National Defence.
DND recently notified local first nations it no longer has an operational need for the property.
The agreement will express their shared interest in working together to protect the environment, heritage and cultural value of the area.
