Cruise ship tourism industry looking for workers
The Victoria Cruise Industry Alliance was looking for employees Saturday. The VCIA hosted the first ever Cruise Tourism Job Fair at Ogden Point.
Cruise terminal G.M. John Briant says every year, hundreds of jobs are created in Greater Victoria as a result of cruise ship visits. "Every time three ships come in here we get over four hundred people getting a pay cheque. For us, it's about creating jobs and giving people an opportunity to be employed in Victoria."
Companies such as Victoria Pedicab Company, Western Canada Marine Response, Wilson's Transportation, Seaspan and The Butchart Gardens were recruiting. Employers are hiring for a variety of positions, ranging from front-end to skilled mariner trade roles. They are looking to fill as many as two hundred positions.
The first cruise ship of the season, the Star Princess is expected to arrive at noon on April tenth.
