Dog ban lifted following wolf attack near Tofino beach

Parks Canada has lifted its dog ban for the Long Beach Unit of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. The temporary ban was put in place last Thursday after a wolf attacked a dog near Wickaninnish Beach.

While there were no encounters between people and wolves over the weekend, Parks Canada wildlife specialists closely monitored the area and found ongoing signs of wolf activity. For this reason, the Wolf Advisory remains in place.

Visitors are encouraged to leave their dogs at home, since at least one wolf in the area has begun to identify and target dogs as prey.
