Esquimalt okays sewage plant rezoning
It's official. The Capital Regional District's long awaited sewage treatment plant cleared the final hurdle with Esquimalt council last night,as council unanimously approved rezoning for a sewage treatment plant at McLoughlin Point.
Council had rejected rezoning in 2014. But this time many council members believe there is a better understanding of how this will work and a belief this is a better treatment plant than what was proposed previously.
Mayor Barb Desjardins says all that remains now is signatures and paperwork surrounding the amenities -- adding the project board now has the certainty to move forward:
" I know they've been wanting to, should this get passed, they've been wanting to get the shovels in the ground in March sometime. So this may help give them an extra week."
For its part Esquimalt will receive about 20 million dollars in amenities for hosting the treatment plant.
