ICBC asking drivers to take care on the roads this holiday weekend

As drivers hit the road this Victoria Day long weekend, police will be conducting a province-wide enforcement blitz to target high-risk driving behaviours to keep B.C. roads safe as part of a month-long campaign.

High-risk driving behaviours, like speeding, increase your risk of crashing.

ICBC, police and Speed Watch volunteers are urging drivers to slow down.

Over the Victoria Day long weekend, 52 people were injured in 290 crashes throughout the Vancouver Island in 2016.

Meantime, good news if you are taking the Malahat.

The Ministry of Transportation says a second northbound lane has opened on the Malahat just in time for the long weekend.

The announcement comes after crews made "significant" progress in excavating rock to widening the highway.

The contractor will not be working from Friday morning until Tuesday night over the May long weekend.
