Interim safety improvements and Kangaroo Rd. Highway cam announced for Highway 14/Sooke Rd
Residents who use Sooke Rd/Highway 14 between Langford and Sooke will see some projects underway at intersections in the coming months.
The Province is freeing up $800-thousand to add lighting, enhanced signage, and new delineation at intersections along the route. Those include Parkland, Gillespie, and Connie Rd. intersections.
The work will also include clearing of vegetation to improve visibility for drivers, as well as pedestrians and cyclists. Work is expected to be completed by fall 2017.
As well, this spring, new higher-quality reflective glass bead will be added to the paint lines to improve night visibility along the busy road, and a new highway webcam has been installed at Kangaroo Road. It goes live at the end of the month.
These interim improvements will be undertaken while a study on short- and long-term improvements for Highway 14 is being completed -- that is expected by the end of the summer.
The busy single-lane highway is used by about 14,000 vehicles, and has seen an increase of about 900 vehicles a day over the last five years.
