Kaikash Creek wildfire 20 percent controlled
BC's Wildfire Service say they are making progress in the battle against an out of control blaze near Port McNeil. The Fire is now listed as twenty percent controlled, up from ten and has only grown in size by a hectare to eighty-one hectares over the last few days.
Spokesperson Nicole Gagnon says fire fighters could use some of the rain in the forecast to fall. "I'm crossing my fingers and the crews are out there working hard so the rain would help them indeed."
The Kaikash Creek wildfire, about 35 kilometres southeast of Port McNeill, was discovered Tuesday.
Four helicopters, 22 firefighters and four pieces of heavy equipment are working to contain it.
The cause of the blaze, which is Vancouver Island’s largest so far this year, is still under investigation.
