Langford residents still facing consequences of water main burst
Some Langford residents are still facing the consequences of the burst water main on Goldstream avenue on February 19th.
Curt Spaven's house on Scafe road was severely damaged by the flood, despite his quick actions to try to pump the water out of the house.
Standing among a yard full of destroyed possessions, he told CTV Vancouver Island that he doesn't expect to be able to move his family of 9 back into the house.
"With the age of the house, there is some asbestos and some lead paint I guess. So we need to wait another week or so for an asbestos abatement team to do start demolition, and that will take another week. And then after that it will be rebuilding."
He and his family are currently staying at a hotel, but Spaven says he would much rather be at home.
Meanwhile, the CRD says under BC's law, the local government is not responsible or liable for the damages, and will not be covering any costs that residents are facing.
