Malahat returns to one lane in each direction between Aspen and Shawnigan Lake Rd.
As of today the Malahat is going back down to one lane in each direction.
According to the Ministry of Transportation's Janelle Erwin the change is to allow crews to commence with blasting work on the $34 million Malahat project.
"People throughout the summer already had a single northbound lane between Monday and Thursday. The difference will be now there will still be a single lane Friday, Saturday and Sunday. But we've seen the traffic volumes have gone down and we're not anticipating any kind of significant queuing."
The reduced lanes will last right through to the May long weekend. The project will see a 4-lane divided stretch of highway between Aspen and Shawnigan Lake Roads by the end of next summer.
Erwin reminds drivers it's still a construction zone so expect lower speed limits, and about 20 minute delays to get through the area.
