UPDATE: More charges laid in Brentwood Bay murder

A Nanaimo man - charged with murder - now faces two additional charges following a court appearance Wednesday morning.

The charges are in connection with the death of Emily Caruana, and injuries to two men at a home on Meadowlark Lane in Brentwood Bay at 12:30 Saturday morning.

Police arrived at the scene on the weekend to find signs of the violent struggle, and a woman dead at the scene.

Along with a charge of first degree murder, Alan Charles Chapman also faces two additional charges of aggravated assault against the murder victim's uncle and her boyfriend.

Chapman remains in custody. Police don't believe that the attack was random.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit remains at the scene.

Central Saanich Chief Constable Les Sylvan says the community is in shock, adding it's been 19 years since they've seen a crime of this severity in the bedroom community.
