Saanich Police and Mayor say 7 p.m. decampment deadline stands at Regina Park tent city

As the 7 p.m. deadline for campers to be out of Regina Park nears Saanich police say those remaining will be in violation of the court order and will be subject to being arrested.

Police spokesman, Sgt. Jereme Leslie says all reasonable measures to achieve voluntary compliance are being undertaken, adding District staff and others are at the site again today assisting many people.

It's not known if the campers that remain are planning to move en masse to another location, or will simply disperse.
As the 7 p.m. deadline for campers to be out of Regina Park nears Saanich police say those remaining will be in violation of the court order and will be subject to being arrested.

Police spokesman, Sgt. Jereme Leslie says all reasonable measures to achieve voluntary compliance are being undertaken, adding District staff and others are at the site again today (Tuesday) assisting many people.

It's not known if the campers that remain are planning to move en masse to another location, or will simply disperse.

Speaking earlier on CFAX 1070, Saanich Mayor Richard Atwell says staff have been busy helping tent city pack their belongings, and collecting all their garbage.

" And when we get to 7:00 tonight whoever is left in the park is going to be asked to leave and the police will have as bit of challenge there is there aren't any, I guess if there is an unwillingness to do that.  But ultimately we are following a court order to evacuate everybody by 7:00 pm night. There is no grace period as such. And police are going to use all reasonable means to achieve voluntary decampment before relying on the power of arrest."

It's not known if the campers that remain are planning to move en masse to another location, possibly Victoria. Many campers appear to be packing up, others have indicated they may stay and be arrested if instructed by camp leadership, and a few have found housing.
