Saint Michael's University School students convert VW Beetle into "green machine"

Grade 10 students at Saint Michael's University School are turning an old VW Beetle into a modern "green machine".

A group of green-minded students got together and bought a 1973 VW Beetle off Used.Victoria and began converting it into a fully electric vehicle.

They got funding approved for the electric kit and have been working to convert the bug into a green machine. "To see that a bunch of grade ten students can actually convert a car, it's pretty cool."

The group believes they are the first group in the world to fully convert a vehicle to electric. It's been done before but by grade 12 students.

They hope to have the electric beetle up and running in the next week.
