Traditional First Nations Feast Friday at Our Place
A convoy of vehicles and trucks loaded with food and clothing is winding it's way to Victoria for a traditional First Nations feast and giveaway at Our Place on Friday.
Members of the Ahousaht First Nation and other communities are bringing thousands of pounds of donated food, warm clothes, blankets and toiletries to the location on Pandora Street.
Two traditional First Nations feasts are planned for Friday February at noon and again at 5pm, accompanied by drumming and entertainment.
Don Evans, executive director of OPS, says it's about communities helping neighbors:
"More than a quarter of the people we serve are Aboriginal. We're honoured to be part of this great gesture of generosity."
Our Place is a unique inner-city community centre serving Greater Victoria's most vulnerable - providing over 18 hundred meals daily, as well as education, counseling and clothing, plus 135 transitional housing units and 60 overnight shelter mats.
