Two local leisure centres reap benefits from Federal Gas Tax Fund


Two local recreation centers are getting a financial boost from the Federal Gas Tax Fund.

Saanich will receive $4 million for the replacement of mechanical infrastructure at Saanich Commonwealth Place.

The total $4-million dollar project, aims to reduce SPC's carbon footprint by 90 percent.

Work includes installing biomass boilers an upgrade from the existing natural gas boilers.

Design work will begin this year ....with 2-years of construction to begin in 2019.

More than 25-hundred people use the SCP rec centre daily.

The SEAPARC Leisure Complex in Sooke is getting a $1.24 million cash infusion from the Fund.

The total cost of the expansion is $2.75 million, with the balance of $1.5 million coming from SEAPARC's reserve funds.

The SEAPARC expansion will include a gym facility.
