(Updated) BC Ferries launches public engagement process on new vessels
BC Ferries is looking for community input as it designs 5 new ferries to replace 4 aging ones.
The ferry corporation expects new vessels will be in the build phase sometime in the middle of next year, and in service by 2023 between Vancouver Island and Metro Vancouver, replacing the Queens of New Westminster, Alberni, Coquitlam and Cowichan.
BC Ferries President & CEO, Mark Collins, says the corporation is working on things like keeping fares affordable, and reduce the environmental impact and underwater radiated noise -- but input is also wanted on how to improve the customer experience.
Feedback is being sought on topics like accessibility, food and beverage options, technology, amenities, type of service and seating options.
The engagement runs from March 12 to April 12. You can provide feedback online or participate in customer engagement sessions on board the Vancouver Island-Metro Vancouver routes. Stakeholder workshops are also planned.
