Walk-in Clinics of BC launches petition drive for more family doctors.
BC is running short on family doctors.
That from the Walk-In Clinic of BC Association that's launching a petition calling on the government to train, recruit and retain more family doctors in the province. The petition will be launched Friday at the Annual Walk-In Clinics of BC Association Conference in Burnaby.
Founding Director and Conference Convenor, Mike McLoughlin, says it's clear there is a critical shortage of family doctors in BC and he adds walk-in clinics are closing because they can't get physicians to staff their schedules.
McLoughlin says, 45 clinics have shut their doors, or closed their access to walk-in patients over the past five years.
He says the petition will be distributed to walk-in clinics throughout the province and the campaign will run until the shortage of family doctors is addressed.
