Westjet and Sunwing use Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft on Victoria flights
Westjet and Sunwing Vacations confirm they use the Boeing 737 Max 8 when flying in and out of Victoria Airport, with an average of 200 flights a month.
WestJet uses the Max 8 on domestic flights, while Sunwing uses it on its Victoria-Mexico flights.
Concerns over the safety of the aircraft are being raised after 157 died after that model of airplane crashed shortly after takeoff in Ethiopia, killing all on board, including 18 Canadians.
The Boeing Max 8 was also involved in a crash just 4 months ago in Indonesia, killing 189 people.
While some airlines are voluntarily grounding the Max 8's pending safety assessments -- Air Canada and WestJet have both issued statements saying they are confident their Max 8 airplanes are safe.
