Woman arrested after a vehicle theft and crash
A strange incident in Saanich has resulted in the arrest of a woman following a vehicle theft and crash.
It started about 1:45 Thursday afternoon when a woman walked into Victoria's Crystal pool in Victoria claiming she'd been stabbed.
She didn't wait for help, instead she walked up Quadra Street to Holmes Street in Saanich where she broke into a house and took cars keys, and a Honda CRV.
The homeowner was in the house and heard her vehicle being unlocked, and saw the woman inside it. Despite an attempt to stop the thief, she was not successful.
Then, Saanich Police spotted the stolen SUV northbound on the Pat Bay Highway, but the woman refused to stop -- running a red light at Sayward Road. Officers elected not to continue the pursuit as it wasn't safe.
A few minutes later, Central Saanich Police responded to a roll over crash in the 7200 block of the Pat Bay Highway. After crashing the CRV, the woman flagged down a passing motorist and asked to be taken to the Saanich Peninsula hospital. But again she didn't go, and tried to flag down another vehicle.
Police soon located her running on Bourne Terrace and arrested her.
The 29 year old was assessed at hospital, and although she had minor injuries, she had no stab wound.
She was released back into police custody and faces facing several charges -- including break & enter, theft, dangerous operation of a vehicle and flight from police.
