10 indie acts to discover at Osheaga

Osheaga weekend is probably one of the biggest live music weekends in Montreal. The 3-day music festival at Parc Jean Drapeau attracts attention from around the world and has become the epicenter for what is considered trendy and breaking in the music world. Big rock acts this year include staples like Arctic Monkeys, Blondie, Florence + The Machine, The National, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Lykke Li.

However, Osheaga is also a time to discover new independent acts. Here are some less familiar picks that will be playing the festival this year:

Ron Gallo

Friday, August 3, 2018
Scène des Arbres, 1:00pm-1:30pm

Hailing from Philadelphia, PA, Ron Gallo dips into garage rock and punk rock to make for a uniquely vintage sound.

Calpurnia

Saturday, August 4, 2018
Scène de la Vallée House of Vans, 6:30pm-7:20pm

This 4-piece indie rock band's sound screams summer: calm, cool, and collected is what they are. And they're fronted by Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things! How cool is that?!

The Beaches

Saturday, August 4, 2018
Scène des Arbres, 4:50pm-5:35pm

Glam rock meets garage rock with this female-led 4-piece band out of Toronto. In fact, you may have heard their latest single, "T-Shirt" on CHOM.

Ponctuation

Saturday, August 4, 2018
Scène des Arbres, 2:05pm-2:40pm

This 4-piece band made up of seasoned local musicians (including members of Solids and UUBBUURUU) is raw and gritty and dips into lo-fi and psych rock.

Sir Sly

Friday, August 3, 2018
Scène de la Rivière Bell ALT Télé, 1:30pm-2:05pm

You've probably heard Sir Sly's music and maybe even tapped your foot along to it without realizing it. These musicians from L.A. have been dominating the alt charts with their rock/pop song, "High".

Matt Holubowski

Friday, August 3, 2018
Scène de la Montagne Coors Light, 2:05pm-2:45pm

Dark, haunting, beautiful... An apt description for this Hudson native's sound. If the name sounds familiar, you probably recognize it from "Exhale/Inhale" which has played on CHOM.

Son Little

Saturday, August 4, 2018
Scène de la Vallée House of Vans, 2:05pm-2:40pm

Aaron Livingston, better known as Son Little, puts a modern spin on blues, soul, gospel, and rock and roll.

John Jacob Magistery

Saturday, August 4, 2018
Scène Verte Banque Nationale, 1:30pm-2:05pm

Montreal's John Jacob Magistery is no stranger to CHOM's audience or Montrealers. A must if you enjoy music which draws from folk and indie rock.

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue

Sunday, August 5, 2018
Scène de la Montagne Coors Light, 3:25pm-4:10pm

Troy Andrews, AKA Trombone Shorty, comes to Montreal from New Orleans and has been playing trombone since the age of 4! He's joined by his fellow bandmates for a concert that's heavy on the horns.

Slaves (UK)

Sunday, August 5, 2018
Scène des Arbres, 6:30pm-7:20pm

This duo's sound is described as "British punk with harsh bluesy garage riffs". Need we say more?
