WATCH: In 1971 Montreal experienced the Storm of the Century

On March 4, 1971, Montreal experienced what would eventually be called the "Storm of the Century".

A snowfall of 43.2cm was recorded in Montreal while other parts of Quebec received up to 47cm of snow.

According to La Presse Canadienne, 17 people died during the storm, mostly from heart attacks while shoveling and walking.

Although 43.2cm may seem like a lot of snow, the record was broken on Dec. 27, 2012 when Montreal received 45.6cm of snow.
