WATCH: Maida, Kreviazuk celebrate 50 years since Montreal bed-in

Music power couple Raine Maida and Chantal Kreviazuk were in Montreal this past weekend to play a show under their collaborative alias, Moon vs. Sun.

The couple took time before their performance at Corona Theatre to celebrate the 50th anniversary of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Bed-In for Peace by reenacting the event at Hotel Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth's fabled room 1742.

Today @rainemaida and I have been in the room where @johnlennonofficial and @yokoonoofficial did their bed-in for peace 50 years ago. It’s hard to put into words how spectacular it has been to be in the exact place where they were, speaking about what peace means to us. We just want to remind everyone how much our words mean, our tone.... let’s be kind and gentle to our partners... let our children see us forgiving each other, being gentle toward each other, making each other laugh... we should be singing, dancing together... being vulnerable. Why are we so scared to be loving? Is it a sign of weakness? What has happened in the 50 years since john and yoko recorded #givepeaceachance in the room at the @fairmontqueene in #montreal #peacebeginsathome @carllessardphotographe ❤️❤️❤️☮️

When asked why they decided to celebrate the anniversary, Kreviazuk told CTV Montreal, “we thought it would be incredible to come and experience the room and remind people to be kind to each other and to love one another. [...] If everyone, no matter what their podium or purpose was, tried to come at their life with the idea of being respectful and more mindful to each other, we would live in a very different world.”

Maida continued, “we have young children and it’s just teaching them so that when they go out in the world, they are that.”

The Montreal Bed-In for Peace of 1969 was one of two week-long events spearheaded by Lennon and Ono to protest the United States' involvement in the Vietnam War and to promote world peace. It lasted from May 26 to June 1, 1969. The other bed-in was held at the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam and lasted from March 25 to March 31, 1969.

Footage from both Bed-Ins would eventually be made into a documentary titled Bed Peace and would go on to be released on YouTube by Yoko Ono.
