Madonna Earns Her 9th No. 1 Album
Madonna’s loyal fans helped make the pop icon’s Madame X her ninth No. 1 album.
The album, which dropped on June 14, tops the Billboard 200 chart dated June 29 after selling 95,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week.
According to Nielsen Music, Madame X sold 90,000 traditional albums and earned 1,000 track equivalent albums and 4,000 streaming equivalent albums.
Madonna's 14th studio album is the first to hit No. 1 since 2012’s MDNA.
The 60-year-old singer has the second-most No. 1 albums of any female artist behind Barbra Streisand, who has 11. Overall, Madonna trails The Beatles, Jay-Z, Streisand, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Presley, Eminem and Garth Brooks.
She has had at least one album in the Top 10 in each of the last four decades.
None of the singles off Madame X – including “Medellín” and “Crave” – have charted high on the Billboard 100.
