ATV driver nearly hits pedestrian in Fredericton: police

The Fredericton Police Force is investigating after an all-terrain vehicle nearly hit a pedestrian on a walking trail.

Police say an officer heard what sounded like a speeding ATV in the Marysville area around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Sgt. Ross Chandler says the officer spotted the machine driving on a walking trail, and activated his emergency lights to try and stop it.

"The ATV failed to stop for the police vehicle and almost struck a person on the trail," said Chandler. "After approximately 200 meters the pursuit was called off."

Chandler said the ATV driver then drove off the trail into the forest, and fled on foot after getting the machine stuck.

Police say their investigation is ongoing.
