Man who attacked 3 people at Fredericton college given new freedoms
The man who used a machete-style knife to attack three people at a Fredericton college has been granted new freedoms.
Luke Powers was found not criminally responsible in the January 2014 attack at Eastern College because of his post-traumatic stress disorder.
The former soldier has been under psychiatric care at the Restigouche Hospital Centre in Campbellton ever since.
The CBC reports that Powers can now go on overnight stays away from the centre when accompanied by a family member.
Friday's decision paves the way for Powers to get treatment at specialized PTSD clinics in other approved health care centres.
