Extreme cold warning for northern N.B.

It seems winter has returned with a vengeance in parts of New Brunswick.

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for northern regions of the province.

That includes Woodstock, Grand Falls, Edmundston, Campbellton, Bathurst, Miramichi and the Acadian Peninsula.

Forecasters say a combination of cold Arctic air moving into the province Friday night, combined with brisk northwest winds behind a passing storm southeast of the Maritimes, will give wind chill values below -35 early Saturday.

Environment Canada says extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health, such as frostbite and hypothermia.
