Ice fishers encouraged to respect the environment

As ice fishing enthusiasts head out on our province's lakes and rivers, they're being reminded to be environmentally responsible.

The New Brunswick government says signs posted at popular ice fishing sites tell owners of ice-fishing shelters to properly maintain them until the end of the fishing season on March 31.

Environment Minister Serge Rousselle says fishers should follow the regulations and make sure their shelters are removed when the season's over.

Owners must post their name and address on the outside of the shelter, mount shelters on skids or runners to allow for easy removal, and properly dispose of all waste on land.
