N.B. encourages people to become organ, tissue donors
The province is encouraging New Brunswickers to register as an organ and tissue donor.
Health Minister Victor Boudreau says one organ donor can save the lives of eight recipients, a tissue donor can help 75 people and an ocular donor can restore sight for two people.
There are about 126 people on the wait-list for an organ in New Brunswick – many of those waiting for a kidney – and another 125 are waiting for corneal transplants.
Nearly 320,000 New Brunswickers have already signed up to become a donor.
You can become a donor by indicating your desire on your Medicare Change Request, Replacement and/or Renewal form, which is available online, or by calling 1-888-762-8600.
