Sudden thunderstorms knock out power, leave minor damage overnight
Thousands of homes and businesses in New Brunswick were left in the dark Thursday night after a powerful thunderstorm rolled through.
NB Power was reporting at least 6,000 outages late Thursday night and some structural damage due to "sudden thunderstorms.''
The worst hit areas include the island of Lameque and the Shippigan and Caraquet areas.
The utility said repair work will continue into today and that extra crews were bring brought in to assist the repair effort.
The same storm also cut power to more than 120,000 homes and businesses in Ontario and Quebec.
Locally sporadic storms were reported with minor damage overnight.
