The first case of measles this year has been reported in New Brunswick.

Dr. Jennifer Russell, acting chief medical officer of health, tells The Daily Gleaner this case may be connected to a minor outbreak in Nova Scotia, where there have been 20 confirmed cases.

Measles is a serious highly contagious illness and Russell says health officials have been closely monitoring the spread of infection in Nova Scotia.

She says it looks like almost all of the cases in Nova Scotia have been linked to international travel.
