650 open cases related to illegal crane operator strike
The number of investigations related to last month's illegal crane operators strike has jumped drastically.
Commission de la construction du Québec spokesperson Mélanie Malenfant said there are now 650 open files related to the work stoppage, up from 150. Malefant added that more cases will open up as the investigations continue.
The open files are criminal cases because the strike had been declared illegal. Priority is given to the 20 or so investigations that involve threats or intimidation.
Crane operators walked off the job province wide between June 18 and June 26, with those working on the Champlain Bridge starting early, on the 14th.
They were protesting the changes made to how new recruits are trained, saying they are unsafe and put people at risk.
