Application for class action against Hydro-Quebec to be filed today
An application for a billion dollar class action lawsuit against Hydro-Quebec will be filed Wednesday with Quebec Superior Court.
The lawsuit is based on the revelation from earlier this year that showed the utility collected $1.4 billion more than it needed between 2008 and 2015, amounting to roughly $350 per client.
The Peuple allumé coalition, which has been spearheading the campaign against Hydro-Quebec, has called a press conference for 11:00 A.M. to discuss the details surrounding the legal proceedings it is taking against the crown corporation.
According to the Journal de Montreal the application is being filed by Archer Avocats from Granby.
The coalition behind the suit created a petition online with nearly 30,000 people interested in participating in the class action.
The group said they sent a formal notice to the government on April 18, but never received a response.
