Montreal police are looking for an arsonist who set fire to a home under renovation in Cote St. Luc.

Police say the homeowner saw a man in his 60's spreading accelerant at a home on the corner of Rand and Kildare.

He chased the suspect but the man managed to get away.

Police do have some clues to go on.

The suspect accidentally set fire to his clothes and had to strip some of them off before his escape, leaving them behind for police to rummage through.

Police spokesperson Raphael Bergeron says the house was heavily damaged in the fire.

"Major damage was caused to the residence due to the fire that started with accelerant, so on both floors major damage was caused," he said.
