Computer glitch plays mean April Fool's joke on immigration applicants
Quebec is admitting that a computer glitch played an unpleasant April Fool's prank on more than 6,000 would-be immigrants on Sunday.
The provincial government's immigration webpage - which had been suspended months ago - unexpectedly started accepting applications and word quickly spread in on-line forums.
500 of the applicants who flocked to the site got as far as paying the application fee before the government shut down the page.
Their money will be refunded and all applications will be voided, according to government officials who spoke to QMI.
