Construction pros needed for Quebec's second wave of roadwork
If it hopes to be able to handle a second wave of major construction projects across the province, Transport Quebec will need to find more engineers and other construction professionals with solid expertise.
LaPresse reports that a lack of professional resources is one of the factors limiting the amout of work being completed now and it's limiting the department's ability to plan and prepare for future projects.
Nearly one-third (32%) of Québec's highway network - including about 1,800 bridges - will have accumulated between 40 and 50 years of service to Quebecers by 2020.
Transport Quebec is already struggling to maintain progress it's made over the last decade and the president of the union for government engineers, Marc-André Martin, says that he expects experienced professionals will be hard to find as Quebec plans to invest $100 billion in infrastructure improvements by 2028.
