Father, stepmom of 7-year-old Granby girl won't face new charges...for now

No new charges were filed Thursday in the case of a 7-year-old girl who was found beaten and tied to her bed on Monday — and who died in hospital on Tuesday.

Before the girl died, her 30-year-old father and his 35-year-old girlfriend were both arraigned on charges of forcible confinement, with the girlfriend facing an additional aggravated assault charge.

They returned to a Granby courtroom on Thursday morning for a bail hearing, and it was expected that the couple could face new charges, since the girl had died since their initial court appearance two days earlier.

Prosecutors, however, say the criminal investigation needs to progress further before they can lay charges in connection with the girl's death. They do suggest that other charges are possible.

The couple are due back in court on May 23. They will remain behind bars until then.
