Fire at Le Devoir building downtown

A cigarette tossed in a flower pot is being blamed for sparking a major fire at an office building at the corner of Berri and Ste-Catherine Streets downtown.

The four alarm blaze started on the roof of the building that is home to the French language newspaper, Le Devoir, and spread to a neighbouring building.

There were evacuations but no injuries.

The damage is significant.

The newspaper says despite the fire it will publish a paper on Tuesday and digital operations will continue as usual.
