Firefighter cleared of breach of trust, corruption

A Montreal firefighter who was arrested by UPAC three years ago has been cleared of charges of breach of trust  and corruption.

Luke Désy worked as a fire investigator and had been accused of falsifying his report into the cause of an apartment fire on the Plateau in December of 2013.

The Crown contended that Désy had taken a bribe to fudge the truth for the report he had prepared for an insurance company.

The Journal de Montreal reports that in a rare move for a preliminary hearing Judge Patricia Compagnone threw the case out
because of what she called " a lack of evidence" from the Crown.

Désy has been suspended without pay since his arrest in May of 2015 and is now awaiting a decision as to whether he will be reinstated.
