Firefighter files lawsuit against city over corruption charge
A City of Montreal firefighter is seeking $125,000 in damages from the city after he was cleared of charges in a suspected case of corruption.
Luke Désy was arrested in 2015 and was charged with accepting a bribe to falsify a report into the cause of a fire for an insurance claim.
At the preliminary hearing more than two years later a judge threw the charges out saying there was no evidence.
In his lawsuit the 49 year old Désy claims that he was offered a bribe, but refused it and when he reported it to his superiors, they accused him of being corrupt and suspended him without pay.
