Fishing festival falls flat following fish fatalities
An annual event held across Quebec to encourage sport fishing turned sour in Trois Rivieres last weekend after someone forgot that fish need air.
The annual fish festival is held every year in dozens of communities across Quebec.
Sponsered by the Quebec Fish and Wildlife Ministry it offers Quebecers an opportunity to fish without a licence.
In Trois Rivieres though things went badly right after 2000 rainbow trout were dropped into a local pond.
The idea was to attract youngsters to the sport, but just about an hour later all the fish were dead.
Trois-Rivières officials released a statement saying only that the fish did not survive their environment but a biologist told Radio- Canada that the fish died because of a lack of oxygen in the pond.
