Former women's hockey rivals Ouellette, Chu announce birth of daughter
If Hollywood is looking for the next great love story to bring to the silver screen, this is it.
Two former hockey rivals, who faced off in some of the biggest games the sport can offer, including Olympic Gold Medal games, officially announced the birth of their daughter Monday.
Caroline Ouellette, the former captain of Canada's National Women's Hockey team, and Julie Chu, the former captain of the US National Women's hockey team welcomed Liv Chu-Ouellette on November 5.
While the two took part in one of hockey's greatest rivalries on the ice, off the ice they fell in love.
"I feel truly blessed to experience this incredible adventure with my love and best friend Julie. I did not realise it was possible to love this much until I met this little buddle of joy" Ouellette wrote.
Ouellette won four Olympic Gold medals, including 2014 in Sochi where she was captain of the squad.
Chu was runner up to Canada three times at the Olympics, in 2002, 2010 and 2014. She was captain of the team in 2012 and 2013 and led the national team to its fifth IIHF Women's World Championship in 2013.
Last spring the couple were teammates on the Montreal Canadiennes of the Canadian Women's Hockey League. The pair won the Clarkson Cup together, while Ouellette was pregnant.
"Liv was on the ice to win the Clarkson Cup with Les Canadiennes de Montréal this past March" she said.
Ouellette is currently on leave from the Canadiennes and ranks third all-time in scoring for the Canadian women's team.
Chu coaches the Concordia University women's team.

It was a happy pregnancy for us. Liv was on the ice to win the Clarkson Cup with Les Canadiennes de Montréal this past March. We spent the summer coaching the sport we love with great friends. Thanks to our families and friends for your support and for being part of this new journey. Cheers to the sleepless nights to come!
