Founding partner of Heenan Blaikie dead at 81

The founding partner of the now defunct law firm Heenan Blaikie has passed away at the age of 81.

In a statement, the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation says Roy Heenan died last Friday following what was described as a long illness.

"Heenan was the first chairman of the Board of Directors of The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation (2001-2012) and was one of the driving forces behind the creation of our organization."

Heenan was also a patron of the arts and had served as chairman of the Board of Directors of the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art and sat on the Board of Trustees of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1999.
