Future soldiers coming to Montreal next week

Starting Monday, you'll be seeing a lot of people walking around Montreal with some pretty high-tech gear.

From September 10 to 21, more than 150 scientists and 80 soldiers from several countries will be taking part in an operation focusing on support and reconnaissance in urban environments.

Don't worry though, it doesn't mean parts of the city will be filled with soldiers carrying guns. In fact, no one involved in the exercise will be armed at all.

The experimentation director for the Contested Urban Environment operation said all tests will be done in a completely controlled environment, and you can even ask a couple questions if you see a soldier on the street.

Some of the gear being tested out includes exoskeleton suits (which can help soldiers lift heavy objects), high tech drones and new network ready tactical vests.
