Girl's body recovered from Abitibi stream

The dead body of a young girl was found near a stream in the area of 2e-et-3e Rang Ouest, Macamic, Abitibi-Témiscamingue, around 1:45 pm Sunday.

According to sergeant Christine Coulombe of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), "everything suggests that this is the body of the girl who drowned in the creek on May 4th".

The body was taken to hospital so it could be formally identified.

Volunteers who were looking for the missing girl made the macabre discovery.

The girl reportedly fell into the stream over two weeks ago, while playing with other children nearby.  Search parties had been out searching for her since the day of her disappearance.

SQ investigators were dispatched to the scene shortly after the body was discovered.
