Champlain Bridge southbound closed all weekend for roadwork
Motorists who use the Champlain and Ile aux Tourtes Bridges will be in for traffic headaches this long weekend.
All lanes towards the South Shore will be closed, as well as the access ramps leading to the bridge. That means access from Highway 15, the Bonaventure Expressway and Nun's Island will be off-limits from 10 PM Friday night until Tuesday morning.
The closures are in place so that workers can replace two expansion joints on the bridge. Crews will also be repaving the southbound side of Highway 15 leading to the Champlain Bridge over the weekend, fixing the many potholes that plague that side of the autoroute. The highway south of the Atwater entrance will reopen at 5 AM Monday morning.
Meanwhile, major work will be done on the Ile aux Tourtes bridge along Highway 40 over the weekend.
Two lanes will be open in each direction during the day, but there will be only one lane available in either direction from 8 PM Friday night until 8 AM Saturday morning. The closures will again occur Saturday night at 11 PM until 9 AM Sunday morning and again at 9 PM Sunday night until 5 AM Monday morning.
