Hydro: Colder weather = higher bills
Anyone who pays the household bills has probably already figured out that it's a lot more expensive to heat the house this year than it was last year.
So it's cold comfort from Hydro Quebec that on average electricity bills increased by 7% in the December-January period compared to December-January of 2015.
The utility says the average cost of heating a 1700 ft2 single-family home is $677 or about $45 more than last year.
The Journal de Montreal says last year Quebecers benefited from an unusually mild winter when electricity costs dropped by 15%.
