Iconic Molson brewery in Montreal for sale

The iconic Molson brewery, in existence for more than two centuries, is now for sale.

The site is on Notre-Dame, near Papineau.

"The brewery John Molson founded on the banks of the Saint Lawrence river more than 230 years ago now takes up 12 hectares. The neo-classical building is the oldest part, while another industrial component is made of brick. There's also an office building on Notre Dame street, and the monumental Molson sign was built in 1963 and, truly, it's a visual icon in this city", reported CTV's Max Harrold.

Molson Coors announced last year it would be moving its brewery to Longueuil in 2021.

The company insists any buyer must respect the heritage of the site.

"It's not only about the dollars, it's also about the collaboration with the city of Montreal and Montrealers," said Molson Coors spokesperson Francois Lefebvre.

"So we're looking for a developer that will respect the heritage of the Molson family and the Molson brewery and also that will work in collaboration with the city of Montreal", he added.

Montreal Mayor Valerie Plante said last year that the sale could lead to the creation of a new Montreal neighbourhood and improved housing in the area.
