WATCH: Laval to ban high rise buildings almost everywhere

The City of Laval is expected to adopt its new development plan later today and among the changes will be a ban on construction of high rise buildings in most districts.

A city spokesman tells the Journal de Montreal that the days of uncontrolled development are over.

Currently 70% of the territory has no height limit on buildings.

Under the new rules, buildings with more than six floors will be banned in 82% of all districts.

The development plan is the first since 1990.

City planners say they want to protect green spaces and focus development in the area around Carrefour Laval and the Montmorency Metro station.
